The section I work at in Knoxville has a free Friday policy where every other Friday you get to do your own research.
The projects change on a regular basis, so at least twice a year you change up what you are working on.
The other employees and managers in my section are really great, intelligent, cool people, with only one exception.
My group at Cisco in Knoxville is very separate from corporate Cisco in San Jose, and that can make some communications seem forced and ludicrous.
Also, there is that one manager in my group at Cisco who has favorites and prefers ideas from one person over another.
There is not much possibility of advancement, at least from within my section at Cisco, without leaving Cisco. As well as, Cisco has regular layoffs, which are bad for morale and scary.
Happy employees are more productive employees, so show employees how to advance within Cisco, and do something about the favoritism shown by a specific manager.
This is specific to the Knoxville office of Cisco, which has a separate interview process. There is a phone interview, a Webex interview, and then an in-person interview with actual coding and problem-solving. The phone interview questions include:
There were two coding rounds and one technical round; overall, a pleasant experience. There was a long time between application submission and when the interviewing process began, but the interviewing process was completed in a few weeks.
The experience was really good overall. Although certain questions seemed irrelevant, like file system architecture, it was overall a good mix of OS, DBMS, and computer network fundamentals. Thank you for your time.
