Some management can consist of a "good ol' boy" network, i.e., managers hiring colleagues based on prior friendship.
Care more about your people than you care about looking good to your superiors. Don't throw good team members under the bus in order to kiss up to your next-level management.

There was no "stump the chump" or intimidation. Good questions were asked during all interviews. The hiring manager was very personable and kind. There was an emphasis on culture and massive growth within the business unit.
