Pros

I can only speak to my own department, but for someone who regularly identifies as a cynic, Clio has some of the genuinely best leadership I've come across in my career.

If you are interested in growing your career, this is probably the best opportunity in the Canadian tech environment to do so. There is genuine, huge potential here, and it is by far the fastest I've had career growth up to this point in my life.

A few reviews here mention cult, etc. Look, if you want to buy into company culture stuff, then good on you. I personally don't, but that doesn't really change how I feel about working here. It's just a thing I happen to be cynical about. Nobody is going to ask you to lay praise at the feet of anyone in leadership. If it isn't your thing, just do what I do and leave it alone. It won't stop you from advancing here.

I feel fairly strongly that the company is very, very upfront. Nothing is ever really hidden from staff, and you are never under any uncertainty about your performance or expectations. I only say this because there's a bit of the "surprised pikachu" vibe to the more negative comments, and I think that context is important.

Cons

Priority is given to moving fast, and this sometimes results in projects getting into that "last ten percent" stage where things are "good enough" but not really ideal. This can be frustrating at times, depending on your work ethic.

In my pros, I mentioned that there definitely is a cult of personality, whether you buy into it or not. This really isn't my thing, and I do find it off-putting at times. At the end of the day, this is still capitalism at work.

The people development and coaching side of things relies a little too heavily on pseudo-psychology techniques that I think are rather counter to the company's values overall. This is an issue if you blindly internalize this stuff, but if you can take things with context, it's fine to work around.

Advice to Management

Try to understand that not everyone here needs to care strongly about the legal environment to do well and perform well. It's absolutely okay for people to just enjoy the tasks of their job without feeling a strong desire to "change the world of law." Maybe they just want to change their own personal world.
