Senior Staff Software Developer Interview Experience

I had a very disrespectful interview experience with Cohere’s recruiting team. I applied for this role about six months ago and was rejected after the technical round, but at the time the overall experience with HR and the hiring team was positive. Because I liked the company and its products, I worked on my gaps and applied again.
This time, a recruiter from the UK branch contacted me to schedule an introductory call for a Canada-based role. Despite saying I could message her if no time slots worked, she did not respond for days and then insisted I choose from her limited availability. Due to the time difference, I rearranged my work schedule to attend a 9–10 a.m. call. Thirty minutes before the interview, she postponed it without any explanation. This felt very disrespectful given the effort I had made to adjust to her availability.
During the interview, she joined late and appeared disengaged and aggressive. It felt like she did not want to be there and was trying to end the interview as quickly as possible. When I asked about the salary range, which is a standard and reasonable question for an HR screen, she smirked and responded that we would not discuss salary, in a dismissive and disrespectful tone.
Mid-call, she realized I had applied previously and stated that they do not interview candidates again so soon, despite having invited me to the interview in the first place. Being confronted with this during the call felt unprofessional and humiliating. This was one of the worst HR experiences I’ve had. It’s disappointing, especially given that my previous experience with Cohere was positive.

No thanks, no acknowledgment, no empathy — just a cold dismissal. I worked there for two and a half years. I’ve never been treated so poorly in my entire career. If you value your mental health or professional integrity, stay far away from this company. No one seems to know what they’re doing, and they certainly don’t value their staff.
