I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days.
I had such a poor experience with just the take-home assessment. I had a horrible experience with them. Their online IDE called CodeSignal was broken to no fault of my own, and I couldn't get more than half of the score. I got called by them and I said I will give it a try. I completed the first part of the coding problem without any issues, quite fast I guess for the overall time of 1.5 hours, and all the built-in unit testing scripts were working, as in showing green. That said, the second required me to add extra functionalities. I started building and noticed the fact that something like the first built-in unit testing script was failing. I opened up a terminal, jumped into the Node.js REPL, and started importing the class that I was required to build, made sure to create a class instance, and with that instance started copying and pasting every line of that unit testing script. Then I noticed some lines had the expect value written with spelling mistakes (in one step it was designed to add a string into my data structure, and in a subsequent step it was checking if the string exists in said structure but expecting the string spelled incorrectly to be returned).
The unit testing script that was designed to score my code was locked so I couldn't edit it. I could have made some special cases into my class to account for the spelling mistake, but that was not in the requirement. It is possible that the unit testing script was written with AI. So, in other words, the testing file that was testing and scoring my code was broken, and there was no way for me to get the highest mark whatsoever. I explained to the recruiter who I was in contact with about how my IDE was broken and got a simple reply about something else (something about the fact that she is waiting for the results from that platform), then she ghosted me. A few days later, I got a generic rejection email from the recruiter.
I went back to her and asked her if she can look into it, but all I got was more coldness and corporate dry replies, like thank you for your feedback or that they checked with CodeSignal and they were reassured the platform has no problems, without actually checking the recording of my coding session. It seems like the recruiter doesn't really care and doesn't want to look into the problem, and there are other people on Reddit suggesting they are experiencing the same level of coldness including indifference to things like technical problems. It was indeed an extremely frustrating experience.
They asked me to use an IDE for the coding test which was broken, and when I reported this to them, they ignored me.
