The interviewer provided me with a set of possible inputs, some of which could be solved with a naive solution.
Knowing the problem already, I went for a solution based on dynamic programming. However, the interviewer stopped me and asked if I could solve the most basic cases with a simpler algorithm.
I said I could and described a possible solution, but noted that it would not work for all cases.
He made me talk for 45 minutes. With only ten minutes left, I had to rush into implementing the algorithm in code, but time ran out before I was done.
Clearly, the interviewer was used to conducting these interviews following a script that I did not fit into.
I received a rather cold e-mail a couple of days later, simply stating I didn't make the cut.
