Senior Software Test Engineer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

I had a very unprofessional experience with one of your in-house senior recruiters.

To start, I did not apply for any position at your company, and I am currently happy with my current employment. Here is the scenario I encountered:

Your in-house technical recruiter emailed me via LinkedIn on 04/19 for a Software Engineering position. My skills, experience, and credentials are publicly posted there. He even mentioned, "Your background looks like you could be a great fit."

I wasn't interested at all, as I am happy with my current job, so I did not entertain his message.

He emailed me again with a similar position on 01/2020, stating once more, "Your background looks like you could be a great fit."

His second message piqued my curiosity about the company. I found out that it is possibly a great company and a great position to work for, so I replied, stating I was interested and asking for more information. I also included my resume.

He then proceeded to ask me about skills that I did not broadcast or publish on LinkedIn.

I told him flat out that I do not have those specific skills, but my skills revolve around them.

This is what he then said:

"I don't think you have the system-level coding experience that the team is seeking, but I will forward your resume to the hiring manager for review. If the hiring manager reviews your resume and feels that there might be a fit, the hiring manager will reach out to you directly. If the hiring manager doesn't reach out to you, that means there was no interest in your background for this role, but I will hold onto your resume for similar openings as they come up in the future, if that's alright."

This felt very unprofessional and borderline unethical to me. So, beware of your recruiters.

I wasted precious family time with him.
