Process
Great experience. The recruiter was transparent and helpful throughout the whole process.
I was not caught off guard at all during the rounds.
The final round consisted of one hour each for:
- Coding
- Systems design
- Overview of a project that I had overseen
- Capacity management
- People management
I have a ton of respect for this company. Everyone that I spoke with was humble and seemed to really enjoy working there.
Questions
The system design question is very data processing specific, like designing a high-throughput pipeline.
Think about:
- Scale
- Fault tolerance
- SLAs

Pros: People are helpful, friendly, and smart.
My area of the company has good work/life balance (though this depends on the team).
The company has a very strong brand and is a recognized leader in the space.
You are allowed and expected to have strong ownership of your product area.
Great autonomy - you can decide how to build your product.
Cons: Most teams have on-call rotations, and some teams have a much bigger burden than others. Lots of things are in flux, as the company has been growing quickly. Many responsibilities are pushed down to teams that really should be handled by common/infrastructure teams. Development can be slow because development infrastructure is lacking. Stock compensation depends on the market, and in a downswing (like now), that can be brutal.

Pros: Good technical challenges, working alongside industry-proven engineers, and tons to learn.
The company's choices are clear and in-touch with reality.
Cons: Return-to-work policies (n days a week). Upper management is not evenly geographically distributed, and I'd be surprised to see them at my location.

Cons: Work-life balance isn’t great, but that’s just a personal experience. I don’t see this problem with other folks.
