Pros: Great product and lots of traction. Great benefits and compensation. Good amount of internal mobility. Great colleagues. Overall good engineering culture. Despite the cons below, I think the C-level management is as focused as ever.

Cons: Management has staged a coup during the pandemic. The company used to be quite lean and the chain of command quite short. This gave ICs a clear sense of who was in charge and a short feedback loop. High-level decisions were made by people who understood the product and had participated in its engineering (i.e., there was no BS). Nowadays the org feels more and more like an onion, and management cares more about the size of their empire than anything else. Engineering projects are given no measure of success (or ones that change quarter after quarter as things get worse) and are allowed to continue for the purpose of justifying hiring. We have regular company-wide surveys that track trust in management. It used to be very high. It went so low they stopped making the per-department numbers public.

Pros: Hiring process: The whole hiring process was great. The recruiters always told me about the next steps and what else was missing in the process. The process went quite quickly (in fact, I slowed it down a bit because I was doing another process). At the end, I had a team matching round where I was able to pick between 3 teams. I was also able to negotiate a pretty good compensation package. Onboarding: The onboarding was well organized. You have 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day "lookbacks" (reviews) to see if you're meeting expectations and what you should be focusing on. My manager is pretty hands-off and the team has been very welcoming, helping me with the ramp up and answering any questions for me. The office: I'm based in the Madrid office. You have to come 3 days per week. You have free lunches Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Most people either come Mon-Wed or Mon/Wed/Fri. The office usually organizes office-wide activities once a month. There is a mix of international and Spanish-speakers. The company/Exec: IMO Exec seems to have a clear direction for the company. Things get a bit more fuzzy at the team level, with Product and Engineering disagreeing on the specifics of certain OKRs/efforts (classic Tech). Depending on your Org/team, things can feel a bit more hierarchical, but overall I've had a very good feeling of the company.

Cons: I can't think of much. The 3-days per week office policy is okay, but I really hope they don't change it. Otherwise, I know a lot of people would be unhappy. It also depends a lot on your manager or organization. I know some people come once or twice a week, and their managers don't care. Others would get a comment in their 1-1s if they haven't come 60% of the days to the office in a given month.

Pros: You learn quickly why the product is so liked by customers: everyone on engineering uses the product daily and is comfortable giving feedback in public about how to make the product even better. This short feedback loop plus the celebration of people who propose and champion bottom-up solutions enables you to have the excitement of a startup with the stability of a publicly traded company with product-market fit. Not resting on its laurels: new product areas are added every year, and each one ties into the platform created by the others, so scope increase doesn't come with a loss of focus. Culture of supporting each other and continuous learning (employee-led workshops, brown-bag presentations, inviting external speakers). Opportunities to give back to the community (donation matching, D&I scholarships for students from underrepresented groups). Many opportunities to mentor and be mentored. Opportunities for internal mobility for those who are interested in switching into other fields, especially when coming from non-traditional backgrounds. Has been very responsive to COVID concerns, accommodates remote work and health needs, and has a reasonable return-to-office policy. Interesting social events between departments that don't just revolve around alcohol and "happy hours" (e.g., pumpkin carving, volunteering, attending sports games, escape rooms).

Cons: Rapid headcount growth and a cautiousness around strict top-down process can mean that newcomers or new teams take a while to get acclimated. Standard tech company unlimited PTO concerns: you need to remember to take time off at your own pace. It can be easy to forget to do this when some people around you take time off very willingly. If you're not in one of the main time zones for your department, you may have to work irregular hours (not 9 to 5) to align with your team. This could be a pro depending on your sleeping schedule.
