The HackerRank assignment was not "LeetCode-y," but instead focused on practical problems relevant to the role. There were three different exercises, and they were quite reasonable and made sense for the job I was applying for.
I was prepared for a more algorithmic style of questions, so I performed poorly in the HackerRank assessment. Nonetheless, in less than 24 hours, they invited me to the next step, the behavioral interview; I was really surprised.
During the behavioral interview, there were some networking issues with the call, and at times I could not hear the interviewer correctly, so I had to ask them to repeat some sentences. After this interview, I was contacted after about 10 days with an email in which they politely turned me down.
The thing is, with my bad HackerRank performance, I really believe that was what got me out of the process. I would have loved to hear that directly instead of hearing what felt like lies. They stated in the behavioral interview that my performance was good, which is weird as I had only completed about half of the assignment.
By hearing these positive remarks, I was really excited for the next steps, which never occurred. Also, the official recruiting document they provide seems to support my suspicions. It states that you are invited to the technical interview only if you pass the HackerRank assignment and, in the meantime, they also schedule the behavioral interview to get to know you better.
Another oddity is that in the behavioral interview, I was told the office location I applied to was not available, so they asked if I was available to work for other locations. They were still very professional throughout this.
Overall, even with some issues, the whole process felt clear and professional.
