Process
The interview process was lengthy but worthwhile. It consisted of 7 interviews total:
- Recruiter screening - To get acquainted and see if Datadog was a fit.
- Coding Phone Screen - Talk a bit about past projects and solve 2 LeetCode-type questions.
- 3-7. Mix of Coding/System Design/Hiring Manager: Solving LeetCode-type questions relevant to Datadog, as well as designing systems or discussing systems I had a hand in building or working with.
Overall, it was a great experience. All the interviewers were welcoming and empathetic to the nerves of being interviewed.
Every interviewer made the process feel like a collaborative effort to talk about technology and code.

Okay, but...

Pros: Super dynamic environment. You learn a lot; they have many new projects all the time.
Good salary, possibility of traveling.
Some good perks.
Cons: Working in a satellite office isn't good, you can be left very much to your own devices.
Perhaps it depends on the individual background and the team and project you fall into, but I find that they can have a somewhat toxic work culture. My boss was suggesting I work shifts as if I were in another country.
The tooling is a mess. For Big Tech, they have some very poor processes and tools, which is surprising given how polished the product they sell is.
The oncall is paid very poorly and is usually not quiet.
Very bad policy for working in another country (at most 5 days in a row).

Pros: The nice thing about Datadog is that it hires people who are not mean. Which means that everyone I work with is genuinely nice, and smart as fuck.
Cons: A whole lot of dudes. Getting better, but still a lot of dudes.
