Software Engineer Interview Experience - New York, New York
Process
Four interviews were conducted after the initial coding competency interview:
- Two coding interviews
- One design interview
- One behavioral interview
One of these interviews was canceled and rescheduled for a week later due to a cancellation on their end.
I "nailed" all of the interviews, but was rejected because they felt I wasn't fully explaining one concept during the design interview to their satisfaction. I felt they were going out of their way to find something wrong to reject me on, despite multiple job openings for which I more than qualify, given my resume. They wouldn't even consider down-leveling me. I guess they were putting me at a senior level despite me stating I did not have senior-level experience but was hoping to get there.
I am extremely disappointed and disillusioned at what companies like these are even looking for at this point. I suspect an ulterior motive.

Depending on what team you're on, your day-to-day work might consist of putting out technical fires that have been building up almost since the company was founded and the first lines of code were written. There's very little culture of documentation, and not a lot of urgency to do anything about that. Different teams seem to be split up along lines that may have made sense once but don't anymore, which gets frustrating when suddenly your work is breaking somebody else's. Collaboration across teams is scattered and haphazard.
