Perhaps the worst recruitment process experience I have ever had!
I first had a call with a recruiter, I believe from India. I got a negative first impression because he was trying to negotiate my salary range, despite it having been previously stated in the job application. It was amusing; at one point, he mentioned the salary range in dollars, which perfectly aligned with my range in euros. However, when he converted it to euros, he lowered the upper range. I didn't want to argue, so I accepted a slightly lower range to continue the process, without high expectations, to be honest.
The recruiter then spoke non-stop for 10 minutes about the company, as if reading from a script.
Next, the recruiter sent me a task as a second step. In the call, he said I needed to submit it within 3 days, but in the email, he specified 48 hours. I let that go as well.
The task consisted of a technical challenge and 11 theoretical questions about React.
The task itself was fairly easy: a custom React autocomplete component.
The questions were basic React questions, not even requiring critical thinking. They were pure theory, which I found strange, as the answers can easily be Googled (though not needed as they are basic).
Finally, I completed the task with a pretty careful design, fulfilling all primary and bonus requirements, along with the questions, and emailed it to the recruiter. Shortly after, I received a confirmation of receipt. Three hours later, I received a generic message: "After thorough consideration, we regret to inform you that we won't be proceeding with your application for this role." It mentioned absolutely nothing about my task or the reason for rejection, concluding with: "While the large volume of applications prevents us from offering individualized feedback, we are grateful for the work you put into your assignment... etc."
I found that pretty offensive! Personally, I would feel ashamed to respond that way to someone who dedicated several hours to completing a task. I'm pretty sure they didn't even bother to look at my task. No process evaluates a task in 3 hours as if developers have nothing else to do.
Several days later, I received an email to evaluate their process. The message was: "Please click the link to take the survey: N/A." Yes, even their evaluation link was missing. Lol.
The most surreal process I have ever had! I hope I will never hear from or about them again.
