I was contacted through a consultancy, and after discussing my expectations on CTC and role with them, a Dell HR interview was scheduled.
Two technical rounds were conducted, comprising coding in Python, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts, API questions, and quantitative aptitude. A puzzle was also included in both rounds.
Following these, there was a managerial round which consisted of some technical, aptitude, and logical questions.
After clearing these rounds, I received a call from a senior HR representative. She discussed my reasons for seeking new opportunities and other general topics, and I was asked to submit my documents for salary negotiation.
After a couple of days, I received a call from HR offering me approximately a 25% hike, which was significantly below market standards. I rejected this offer, stating my expectation was a minimum of 35%.
A week later, they sent an email stating that due to my frequent job switches and hikes of over 100% in a couple of years, the hiring team could not go beyond a 25% increase. I do have some job switches, but I have not had a hike close to 50% in over 2.5 years. I am unsure where the HR department obtained this data.
Dell HR: If you are looking for candidates who are cheap and not deserving, please stop giving vague explanations and wasting candidates' time. You are incompetent at convincing a candidate, so admit it rather than playing games by sending out such emails.
You have the candidates' data from the beginning. If frequent switches are an issue, you should never shortlist them. If you are looking for cheap candidates, then after discussing their salary expectations, you should have the courage to say, "Sorry, we are tight on budget," and not proceed further with the candidate.
This is truly unprofessional behavior from Dell. They have wasted their employees' time, along with mine.
I request the HR team at Dell to please look into this matter, have a word with your team, and avoid such behavior. It will only have a negative impact on the company.
Utter disappointment.
