They believe they are a meritocracy. I worked in half a dozen groups over 10 years. That may have been true early on. It's simply not anymore.
Dell used to believe in high quality products, fantastic customer service, and they used to place a high value on their employees.
Somewhere along the line, they lost sight of those three basics and decided that customers would buy a Dell no matter what and that employees were interchangeable headcounts.
Now, they continually lose both, and that won't change until they change their culture to make those three basics important again.
