While Dell frequently emphasizes its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, the reality is that Black employees in technical roles are often excluded and marginalized. Black women are largely relegated to administrative, sales, and DEI roles, with few opportunities to advance in technical fields. Furthermore, the burden of DEI work should not fall solely on Black employees in non-DEI roles. The culture at Dell often made it difficult for Black employees in technical roles to feel like valued members of the team. Even when concerns were spoken up about, they were met with hostility and retaliation. Ultimately, the toxic and exclusionary environment at Dell made it impossible to feel like a meaningful contribution to the organization was being made. It cannot be recommended as a supportive or inclusive place for Black women software engineers. Until the company takes concrete steps to address its culture of discrimination and harassment and prioritize the well-being of all employees, technical job seekers are urged to look elsewhere for opportunities.
