Pros
  • Great teams.
  • Great managers.
  • Nice benefits.
  • Excellent for those with families.
  • Relaxed atmosphere for the most part.
  • Work whatever hours you want, basically, which is fantastic when you have kids.
  • Managers encourage upskilling as much as possible.
Cons
  • Zero chance of career progression. Promotions never happen, and that is the main reason most people leave.
  • Salary is not competitive and barely increases each year.
  • The work from a software engineering point of view is probably the worst thing about the company. Depending on the team, like the one I'm on, the tasks and features are so basic and require such little engineering skills that you become worse as a developer. This is a big problem that many have come to realize. For someone starting out in their career, this can be damaging when you want to soak up as many skills as possible. You just won't get that here!
  • IT constantly makes changes and updates which block you from doing work and can take weeks to sort out.
  • Principal devs have a habit of pushing unreviewed and untested code, which causes so many problems. Literally weeks are lost each year because of this.
  • Lots of engineers use poor coding practices, so they often give advice that wouldn't hold up in other companies, as it leads to unmaintainable code.
