I struggled to find any significant pros during my time at Discord. The company's fast-paced environment could be viewed as a potential growth opportunity for some, but it often resulted in overwhelming workloads and unrealistic expectations. The office location was decent, but that's about it.
My experience as a full-time frontend developer at Discord was extremely disappointing. The leadership lacked clear direction, causing constant shifts in project priorities. The work-life balance was virtually non-existent, leading to burnout and strained relationships. Communication breakdowns and a lack of support made it challenging to succeed. Compensation was not competitive, especially considering the demands placed on employees.
Management must prioritize transparent communication and realistic goal-setting. Address the severe work-life imbalance to prevent burnout and foster a healthier work environment. Invest in employee growth and development by offering competitive compensation and meaningful opportunities. Focus on fostering a culture of collaboration and support, rather than perpetuating a stressful and disorganized work atmosphere.
Recruiter behavioral interview with standard questions about past projects. Then an interview with the hiring manager. Two coding interviews afterwards, with the last interview being a live virtual onsite.
Applied -> Recruiter -> HM -> Tech Screen. First three rounds went great, but the Tech Screen was a very different experience and felt very out of time with modern software interviewing practices.
Recruiter Call This call involved usual behavioral questions, with the exception of a "tell me about a time when you were building something and had to make tradeoffs" question that caught me off guard. Apparently, my answer to this was satisfactory
