One manager reached out and set up the technical chat. The recruiter was polite and helpful. However, the phone interview experience was very disappointing.

I signed an NDA, so I cannot disclose the exact question. It was a project that requires designing the components and implementing the feature. There were some red flags I saw.

You get about 50 minutes to implement a project from end to end. It has specific design specs, backend and front-end components. The problem is that the interview project prioritizes speed over many other considerations, such as offline caching, network handling, and threading.

1. The interviewer is not experienced. I had an interviewer and another engineer who reverse-shadowed him. Halfway through the project, it was clear to me that he did not have the technical depth to talk about some of the design considerations. Things like rendering on a layer or fast caching were new to him.

2. An emphasis on speed over product quality. Interviewers mentioned a few times how fast they are moving. When I asked them how they manage their testing pipeline and avoid backward-compatible changes, I found out that they do not have any mechanism in place to prevent that from happening.

Just ask them a few industry-standard questions on CI/CD, and you will find out their operational process is quite poor. I would steer clear.
