Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

Your typical interview process:

  • Phone screen with a recruiter.
  • Sent you a project to complete within a timeframe.
  • Onsite interview.

Everyone was nice to talk to, but the whole interview process was just really poor. First, they needed to reschedule my onsite interview two weeks after the originally scheduled date. Then, a day before the interview, they had to reschedule one part of it. I didn't mind, but then they said that if I did well on the first round, they would reschedule that one part. A week later, I received the email to schedule it.

I completed the last round; the interviewer was late, and I basically answered all the questions correctly and performed well according to the interviewers. Three days later, I received a rejection.

The recruiter said I did not do well on one of the interviews from the first round. Why then would you invite me to the second round? All the interviewers gave me positive feedback, and I also felt that I did well. It just doesn't make sense and was a waste of time.

FYI, their tech is not that great. They are basically hiring seniors to fix a codebase that was written by juniors, so you can imagine a lot of technical debt here and there. They are doing a rewrite, but there's nothing special in the tech they are using.
