Pros: I've been working at Dropbox for a few months now, and overall, it has been an absolutely great experience. One of the things that I appreciate the most about Dropbox is the emphasis that the company places on engineering excellence. There is a culture of code reviews, and everyone is encouraged to take ownership of their work and to seek out feedback from their colleagues. This has allowed me to learn a lot from my peers and to continuously improve my skills. But what really sets Dropbox apart is the people. I have never worked with a more helpful and supportive group of colleagues. Everyone is super eager to help, and I have never felt like I was on my own when facing a challenge. From the moment I started at Dropbox, I felt like part of a team. In addition, the company has a very modern approach to software development and is always striving for continuous improvement. The engineering leadership is very transparent about the company's roadmap and encourages engineers to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions to complex problems. This has resulted in a culture of innovation and experimentation that I have not seen at other companies. Another thing that I really like about Dropbox is the focus on collaboration. The company has a lot of cross-functional teams, and I have had the opportunity to work with people from different departments and backgrounds. This has given me a broader perspective on the company's goals and challenges, and has allowed me to develop skills beyond just writing code. The benefits at Dropbox are also great. The company provides competitive salaries, generous stock options, and excellent healthcare benefits. Additionally, the company provides a lot of opportunities for professional development, such as attending conferences and taking online courses.

Cons: One potential downside of working at Dropbox is that the company is set on a virtual-first approach, hence it has employees located all around the world. This can sometimes lead to challenges when it comes to coordinating meetings and projects across different time zones. While the company does its best to accommodate employees in different regions, there are still times when working odd hours may be necessary. However, the company provides flexibility in terms of working hours, and the management team does their best to ensure that the workload is evenly distributed among team members, regardless of their location.

Pros: We focus on making the user's life simpler, and we are trying to build a company that makes money because people pay us for what we offer, which is fairly unique in this day and age where most companies are focused on eyeballs to show ads. We also solve challenging technical problems at scale, both on the client (large amounts of personal data, in fast, low-resource clients, across a wide variety of platforms) and in our backend (large amounts of data, mostly unique per user). When we build things, we strive to build them correctly, both because we're protecting data that is precious to our users, but also because we believe in quality and things just working for our users. Benefits, time off, etc., are all world-class, but they're not the reason you should work here. The reason to work here is the focus on the user, the focus on quality, and solving hard engineering problems.

Cons: The company is growing fast, and growing causes pain. Medium-term goals change more often than at a big company or than they would if it was a less competitive space, since we're always trying to balance being nimble without getting distracted. It's part of the fun, but it can take a little to get used to.

Pros: The perks are breathtaking, and coworkers are generally a great bunch. Good location, great compensation. Great sense of purpose as an employee.

Cons: Too heavy on the junior side; needs more senior engineers and leadership. There are a lot of very green employees just out of Ivy League schools who think they're hot stuff, when in reality they're just "ok".
