Experience massively varies depending on the team assigned. I had to operate mostly autonomously due to the team's crunch.
Ensure that the team receiving the intern has a good idea of what they're going to have the intern do, and has the time to receive them and guide them through the process. Do not put your software development teams under crunch when they're trying to onboard interns.
