Pros
  • Bright colleagues from whom you can learn a ton.
  • Organizational and technical structure that actually works for remote employees.
  • Despite being a distributed company, there are several offices around the globe if you are more comfortable working out of an office.
  • Processes are actively being discussed and refined as teams grow.
  • Rigorous code review for each change that goes into the codebase.
Cons

Working with colleagues remotely comes with all the communication challenges that you know from open-source projects already. People may be in totally different time zones, causing communication delays. Written communication has lower bandwidth than face-to-face communication.

You shouldn't be shy asking how things work, where to find documentation, etc.

Advice to Management

Keep up the open and welcoming nature of the company.

Encourage and enable the wider community to contribute to the projects you run in the open.
