Pros
  • Great benefits
  • Space Time (a week of hacking/improving your domain)
  • Volunteering time
  • Competitive compensation
  • 2x a year company/team outings
  • Fully distributed/remote
  • Make your own schedule
Cons

This is all subjective and is based on my own unique situation/experience.

  • Management/Leads sometimes pressure the release of new features instead of fixing/maintaining existing code/bugs/features.
  • The measurement of your performance is heavily tied to the amount of pull requests and activity shown on your GitHub profile.
  • You will have to do a lot of customer support as a software engineer. Probably around 70% of my time went into SDHs.
Advice to Management

Again, this is mostly based on my own personal experience and is a reflection of management/lead, not the company as a whole.

Management: Please abide by your own imposed "blameless" culture. I had a manager who always blamed missed feature deadlines on me personally. It didn't matter how many other things you did or how many "overtime" hours you worked; your performance/value is heavily affected by how many features you ship.

For the most part, my achievements/strengths went unnoticed, and my mistakes/weaknesses were always confronted "loudly."
