Pros
  • Competent coworkers
  • Good work/life balance overall
  • Good job progression matrix for SE job family, clear career development paths
  • Great overall culture
  • Established HR and comp processes
  • Great ESPP program
  • Ability to move around between teams
  • Not a lot of micromanagement
  • Very interesting engine that's easy to contribute to, lots of work to sink your teeth into if you're interested in core tech
Cons
  • Poor release planning
  • Corporate/marketing decisions affecting games and timeline
  • Lots of technical debt on game teams
  • Management decisions are often rushed, resulting in cuts or last-minute additions
  • Hectic release times
Advice to Management

Management knows what the issues are. Before each release, they confidently say they won't make the same mistakes, followed by making the same mistakes.

If you can get over this and disengage from these higher-up aspects you cannot control, it can be a very satisfying, balanced, rewarding place to work.
