Quality Assurance Interview Experience - United States

Process

I was contacted out of the blue by a recruiter. I think she got my information from my school's jobs website.

I was curious, so I agreed to do a phone interview. It seemed to go pretty well; they only asked really basic interview questions.

I was then contacted to do a screening exam at a local test-taking facility. The exam was super easy. I'm an electrical engineer by training, and even I thought the programming questions were a cinch.

After that, I was asked to come by their headquarters in Verona. They treated me very well. The process to fly out and get to my hotel was extremely smooth (it was very comfortable and nice).

However, I wasn't too impressed by the people I met on interview day. Most of the interviewers were hardly older than me, and they didn't seem to have any passion for their jobs. One person even asked during a group Q&A if there was a lot of turnover at Epic, and the interviewer just said, "Yep," and moved on. Crazy!

All of the technical questions you'll get asked are done in a "testing room" on a computer, so no need to worry about being put in a high-pressure situation or coding on a whiteboard.

The campus was extremely nice and impressive, but I thought the themed areas were a bit over the top. It seemed a little like desperation after I heard about the high turnover. Plus, a Dungeons and Dragons theme? Way to reinforce those stereotypes.

A few weeks after the interview (or maybe just one? I can't remember), I got a call offering me a choice between two jobs, one of which was actually slightly different than what I interviewed for.
