Process

I first had a phone screen with a developer at Epic, which went well. It was just a background check, and he told me about what Epic does, etc. It ended with a simple coding question.

This was followed by a proctored skills test a week later. This test will take around 3-4 hours to complete and contains math and coding questions. They weren't too hard, and with a little preparation, it is crackable. I didn't get through this round.

Pros: I liked the work I was doing. Was given a project doing new development within the first 6 months. I liked the team I was on. Felt like I was contributing to good medicine. I liked the folks I worked with. I am a fan of Madison.

Cons: Personally, I was super burnt out from breaking my back being successful all through high school and college, and now this job. I wasn’t ready for a job that takes up most of my waking hours to be my life, but for what I was making, shouldn’t it be?

Pros: I enjoy the technical challenges, awesome culture, and amazingly smart people who work here. Everyday is a fun challenge, and I learn something new from the most talented developers I have ever worked with. I previously spent 7 years in the defense industry for two different companies before spending nearly 4 years at Epic. The difference is night and day, and I really enjoyed my two previous jobs.

Cons: Explosive growth leads to growing pains in terms of process, but it's not a bad problem to have.
