Software Developer Interview Experience

Process

The first step was a phone interview with a software developer in the company. They asked normal stuff, like why you like coding, what projects you have made, and how the code in the projects works. After that, they take some time to explain what it’s like to work there. I actually didn’t think I did that well, but I was contacted to schedule the technical phase a few days later.

In the technical phase, you take an online assessment while a proctor watches you through a webcam to make sure you aren’t cheating. There are 3 sections.

  • The first section is the only timed section, and you answer as many math questions as you can within a couple of minutes.
  • In the second section, they give you specifications for a made-up programming language, and you answer questions.
  • The third section has 4 programming questions.

You could only use Java or C++ if you were applying to be a software developer. You are allowed scratch paper and a calculator. You can take a break between sections, but not during. You can’t change tabs in your web browser or minimize the window. They let you know if they want you to go to an onsite interview within a couple of weeks.
