Software Developer Interview Experience - United States

Process

There is a phone screen, and then within the next few days, you must complete a proctored online assessment.

There was a basic math portion that was timed. There was a section that basically taught you a new skill and then gave you questions on it. Both of those were fine.

The coding section was ridiculously hard. None of the input outputs matched what was asked. It was a weird blend of code and pseudocode.

Questions

The easiest question was parsing a string and then applying a given function to certain letters in the string. One of the rules was to ignore the first three letters of the string, but the example string was like “the lazy brown fox ate cheese.”

They ignored the first three letters of the words, not the string, and they didn’t give me a function to call on the letters either; they just said to use one. The instructions were really poor, and the example input/output didn’t make sense.
