Epic Systems Work Experiences

Good at a high price

Software Developer • Former Employee

Verona, Wisconsin, United States

Pros: High salary and excellent benefits, with relaxed work attire and a semi-flexible work schedule. Their software is definitely the top in the business, and it's rewarding to help patients and their families get the best treatment.

Cons: Epic is a "turn and burn" company. You need to work at least 50 hours a week, or you'll be pushed to leave after 3 years. I found their leadership practices to be manipulative and secretive. You won't get clear feedback, and there are extra, hidden requirements to anything they offer you. If you want to succeed here, you need to be very aggressive about promoting yourself over your coworkers.

Cons: Too much work for the number of employees. High code churn because there are large amounts of bugs that always need to be fixed, partially due to the massive codebase and number of supported options for each module.
