Pros
  • Smart coworkers
  • Pretty campus (which can be a drawback; they say it's not wasteful, but the amount of new construction and excessive decorations says otherwise)
  • Great health benefits
  • Work that you can delude yourself into thinking makes a difference
  • With the right team lead, your time there can be very pleasant
  • They actually try to match you to a role where you'd thrive
  • You can learn a lot, but you probably need to switch companies to truly grow
Cons
  • Substandard time off: 6-7 holidays plus 10 days PTO (first 2 years), then 15 days PTO. Expressing interest in taking your time off in one chunk for big travel is met with surprise. If you have family far away, taking 2-3 days off at a time doesn't cut it.

  • Poor 401k options. Matching is standard, but the vesting schedule makes it substandard for the industry, considering employee turnover.

  • Work from home is frowned upon.

  • Subpar dental insurance. It covers adult orthodontia but caps at $1000/year with high premiums.

  • No vision insurance, only a vision discount. Are you kidding me? We work at computers all day!

  • Expectations of unreasonably long hours are not outright stated but tacitly encouraged, and these hours get you better treatment. I met people who, on a semi-regular basis, sleep at work so they can get all their tasks done. You can say no, but you'll be in the minority with its respective consequences.

  • Clique-y and cult-like, with a definite good deal of brainwashing going on. It's typical corporate culture with a startup-ish facade.

  • Lack of clear communication about decisions dropped from above that affect nearly everyone.

  • Lots of young folk who have no realistic expectations of what a workplace should be like. This places the burden of establishing reasonable work-life boundaries squarely on one's individual shoulders.

  • Most people I meet intend to leave soon; there's a large turnover rate.

  • For some roles, long training with irrelevant material.

  • No room for salary negotiation. Salary is determined by role, but not all teams within a role are made equal.

  • Poorly designed workspaces.

  • Inflexible and long internal transfers. The company is losing out on people who don't want to wait 1.5-2 years for a role switch.
