As interns, we're rather spoiled. They give us all the interesting projects that the full-time developers don't have time to do. Interns aren't allowed to program in Cache; most were in mobile development, web development, or analytics.
I have an office with a beautiful view, and they organize social events for the interns.
In 2013, the interns were given housing at the Regent Apartments, and a private bus ran from the apartment building to Epic for the first few weeks. After that, there were plenty of carpools, and many people biked or rode the city bus to work.
Many of the intern projects were very exploratory. Many of the interns enjoyed the amount of design required by those projects, but others were concerned that their projects might not be feasible to incorporate into the larger code base. My project was very practical and integrated, though. The projects that turned out well will be bragged about at Epic's Users Group Meeting this fall.
I had to take a lot of tests and had a phone interview where I talked about my past projects. The tests were hours long and took a long time.
30-minute phone screen, then an OA around 4 hours long. The OA had mental math, but also a few LeetCode-type problems. They were not very difficult if you studied common patterns and implementation.
One single virtual interview after a multihour OA. The interview was 4 hours long, but only ~2 hours was actual interview stuff. The rest was two presentations from different people about life at Epic. The 2 hours of interview included a case study,
