I first spoke with the recruiter on July 21st and informed him that I was about to receive an offer and would need them to move quickly if they were interested in pursuing me as a candidate. He said, "No problem." The recruiter was very hard to reach and would usually take 3 to 7 days to get back to me, which differed from the timeline he had given me. The process was flaky, and they kept adding interviews. After speaking with him and pressing the issue, he told me some steps were added so they could "buy time" to interview a few other candidates. The interviewers were mostly untrained, and the interviews were all very easy. After I finished them all, he told me to wait but not worry, since I did "extremely, extremely well" and better than the other candidates, but that he would get back to me on Friday. He reached out to me the following Wednesday (September 1st) to let me know that they decided to take an inferior candidate (his words) who had more experience in what the role was about. I feel that Etsy was not transparent, did not keep me updated, and played me. All of these actions contradict their guiding principles. When I mentioned to the recruiter that the candidate experience was not great, he told me they did their best. When I pointed out that it could not possibly be their best, he became verbally aggressive.

It's astonishing that a company of that size considers people for only one role; it seems very inefficient.
