The hiring process included an HR call, a phone interview, and then an onsite interview. The onsite comprised odd frontend, system design, and project dive-deep rounds.
The HR department responded very slowly, providing only short answers every other day. This made me feel undervalued during the hiring process; it seemed as though the HR representative was not interested in hiring anyone.
They assigned a DevOps engineer for the project dive-deep questions. This individual seemed unprepared, as they didn't know what to ask and couldn't follow the overall process. The interviewer appeared not to have prepared anything, and struggled with asking relevant questions. They also seemed unable to follow engineering processes, feature development, or cross-functional collaborations.
The frontend interview was even worse. The interviewer was disengaged and demonstrated poor communication skills. They were unable to answer clarification questions or provide guidance when I forgot some syntax. Instead, they pointed me in the wrong direction, which wasted a significant amount of time.
The only positive round was the hiring manager behavioral interview. The engineering manager seemed friendly and experienced.
