Software Engineer Interview Experience - Brooklyn, New York

Process

The process began with an initial phone screen with an internal recruiter, followed by a 30-minute video call with an engineering manager. This call included a short programming exercise on HackerRank.

Next, a one-hour HackerRank exercise presented one SQL question and two data-manipulation questions, with no direct relevance to web or mobile applications.

The onsite interview comprised several components:

  • One hour working on problems with a simple Python micro-framework and jQuery app.
  • One hour with the hiring manager and product manager from the team.
  • One hour whiteboarding a mobile app feature's architecture.
  • 45 minutes on a linked-list, time-complexity problem.

No feedback was provided, even upon request.

It seems to me that Etsy's hiring process has evolved into just another cookie-cutter, soul-draining merry-go-round.
