Software Engineer II Interview Experience - United States

Process

I was referred by a manager on a different team. My first interview was a combination technical and hiring manager interview.

The on-site portion included a debugging session, a system design session, and three behavioral interviews. It took place over the holiday season, and it was clear that my experience was impacted by it being a hectic time of year. However, everyone I spoke with was really nice and engaging.

A word of caution: the Etsy on-site interview is no joke. Be prepared for a long day. Get a good night's sleep, write up some bullet points on three major projects ahead of time, and make sure you have water and a snack handy (if you're interviewing remotely).

The recruiter, Beaux, did a great job of wrangling everyone's schedules and kept me in the loop consistently. When the team I was interviewing for wasn't able to offer me a role, he immediately pivoted to checking out other teams where I might be a good fit. I ended up taking an offer elsewhere, but working with such an engaged and candid recruiter made the whole process a lot less stressful. Beaux's advice and encouragement have definitely improved my interviewing skills.
