Software Engineer Interview Experience - United States

Process

The recruiter and hiring manager were both very nice. Unfortunately, the HackerRank assessment was odd and heavily geared towards front-end development, despite the role being full-stack.

If you know Node/Express/jQuery/HTML/CSS exceptionally well, this challenge might suit you. However, if you're like most full-stack developers who work daily with Java/AWS/ReactJS, this role may not be a good fit and could be a waste of your time.

It doesn't seem practical to study specifically for one company's unconventional approach when standard LeetCode and System Design preparation can get you ready for most other tech companies.

Additionally, why is the HackerRank administered after the phone screen?

I'm sure the company is doing great things and is a fantastic place to work. I just didn't get that impression from the interview process itself.
