I applied online for the Engineering Manager position in October 2020. The recruiter contacted me and set up a 45-minute phone call. She spoke about the company and commute for about 10 minutes. She asked about my expected salary and kept pressing until I gave a figure.

Then, she asked about my background. For about 40 minutes, we went over my experience. As we were getting close to an hour and I had to jump to another office meeting, I ended the call.

Another call was set up with the Director who was hiring for this position. From his background on LinkedIn, I saw he had worked 18 years at Amazon in the past. From the interview, I felt he was very professional. He answered a lot of my questions first and then asked a few behavioral questions about my management style. A full 5-hour interview was set up for the third week of November.

The Director himself was one of the five interviewers. The others included a Product Manager, a Principal Engineer, a Tech. Program Manager, and an Engineering Manager. Each interview lasted at least a full hour.

They were very professional conversations, dealing with various situations in software engineering.

Two weeks after the interview, the recruiter contacted me via email. She said the initial reaction was positive and asked if I was still available. I replied that I am still available and understand it takes time. She replied she would get back to me by the end of the week. I never heard back from them after that. That was the only unprofessional part. They could have just emailed saying they were moving on.

There were no direct technical questions over the 5 hours. All were behavioral, situational, and management style questions, dealing with software engineering.
