Pros
  • Interesting business domain
  • Smart and hardworking people
  • Revenue is growing
Cons
  • Engineering and product direction is increasingly detached from the business direction. Our company will only survive if it becomes more efficient than its competitors, yet most of our software teams are not focused on helping make our ops teams more efficient.
  • The most talented, tenured, and senior people in the software org are leaving the fastest.
  • It's hard to get support from middle management when you need something.
  • Internal communication and alignment is getting worse, leading to even more politics.
Advice to Management

We need a new CTO, and to abandon the product directions that don't directly support our core business.
