UI Developer Interview Experience - Bengaluru, Karnataka

Process

The interview started at 10:30 AM.

  • First Round: Machine coding. I nailed this round, completing all parts. The task involved dynamically creating a UI from an API response and implementing search functionality.
  • Second Round: UI Tech. I was asked about closures, the implementation of various UI components, and debouncing. This round also went very well, and I cleared it.
  • Third Round: Data Structures. I provided solutions for all questions, but they weren't completely optimized. I used the indexOf method within a for loop. Consequently, I was rejected.

If a company truly wants to reject a UI Developer based on data structure optimization, then they should treat it as a screening round. Why waste my time on a 2-hour machine coding session and a 1-hour UI tech interview? The first two rounds have no relation to the third.

If a frontend developer is expected to perform operations on thousands of records in the UI (as the interviewer suggested), then there is a significant issue with the backend. Regardless, this is a loss for the company, not the candidate.
