Process

Starts with an HR call asking about motivation to join Flow Traders, then a HackerRank online test consisting of a few C++ questions and a few algorithmic problems. After a few days, another online HackerRank CodePair session occurs where one of the Flow Traders developers will give a coding challenge, and the interviewee needs to provide a working solution.

Later, they will invite for an onsite interview consisting of:

Cultural fit interview round
Technical interview
Lunch with the development team
Final interview with HR.

Funny, they still ask motivation questions. Who would apply without motivation to work?

Pros: There is still some room for getting things done when you have an idea.

Cons: The number of employees keeps growing, but the amount of net income doesn't really grow, leading to weak variable compensation compared to before. Currently, it seems that salaries are not as competitive as they used to be in the Amsterdam area. Another con is mainly a feeling that I have, not sure how real it is, but I feel that upper management considers development an expense rather than an investment.

Pros: There is still some room for getting things done when you have an idea.

Cons: The number of employees keeps growing, but the amount of net income doesn't really grow, leading to weak variable compensation compared to before. Another con is mainly a feeling that I have, not sure how real it is, but I feel that upper management considers development an expense rather than an investment.

Pros: - Good work-life balance - Free food/drinks in the office

Cons: Work quality depends highly on the team you're in. In some teams, you're only given maintenance work and testing, rather than any big projects in C++. Too much micromanagement and bureaucracy. And it keeps on increasing day by day with bad decisions from management. Software engineers are treated as second-class citizens. You don't get a say in a lot of decisions that only impact you. Terrible focus on developer productivity. Because of a lot of bureaucracy and micromanagement, your productivity is quite low. Priorities keep on changing constantly. So, you waste almost half the time just doing context switching instead of actual dev work. Unless you're extremely lucky, your learning curve becomes stagnant within 1.5 years.
