C++ Software Engineer Interview Experience - Cluj-Napoca, Cluj

Process

The interview process is long, tedious, and hard.

It starts with a HackerRank test of about 12 questions. More than half are programming assignments where you are expected to handle input and corner cases; others are just pick-an-answer questions. The time limit is about 2 hours, and most people fail at this stage. It is unlikely that any candidate gets all 12 questions done in that amount of time.

After the HackerRank test, I had a pair programming interview on HackerRank with one of the Senior Engineers working there. The session takes about 1 hour, where my engineer was taking more time to put the questions than me to answer them. This one felt easy.

In both cases, the questions are very narrow in scope, in the sense that there are particular traits/abilities related to the C++ language that are needed. Otherwise, one would easily fail the interview. Most questions are about template meta-programming and C++ templates. Algorithms, design patterns, concurrency, etc., are kind of left out.

After this, you get invited to a discussion with people from management for further screening.
