In my twenty years plus as an engineering leader, this was hands down the worst interview experience to date. The interviewer, to remain anonymous, was ill-prepared. At the start, she said she only had 25 minutes, as she was already late to her next appointment.
She then was confused on the role she was interviewing for. I had to tell her that this was not for an IC role but for the engineering leader role leading the digital transformation.
She then cut the interview short, leaving me one minute to ask any questions I might have. The interview was completely one-sided and not a conversation from the start.
Although I was ghosted by Geico and the recruiter, even if the job were offered to me, I would not have accepted, as this is representative of the leadership in charge of the transformation. Prospects beware.
Are you able and willing to do all the work of the individual contributors on the team, as the team does not exist yet?
