You have a big knowledge base on their beloved business processes. You might be rewarded if you make work your life and make the right connections, I'm told. You can really learn a lot about big business if you want.
Lots of corporate 'overhead' meaning they always have some new complex process or initiative that you'll need to learn and use, while you could be getting real work done. Then they go and change it next year. Describing the company as bureaucratic is overly generous. They spend way too much time on things like getting a computer fixed because that's 'how GE does it'.
Where to start? The company has lost over 60% of its value since Immelt took over, and it's not just because of the economy.
Over-leveraged deals, bad assets, employees who feel taken for granted, overly complicated business practices, processes that stifle innovation and creativity, etc., are just the reasons that immediately come to mind.
