Avoid GE energy in the Houston site. It's not good for an experienced technical person

Pros

GE, the brand that will help your next job.

Not bad benefits, especially medical and dental insurance with low premiums.

Good life/work balance with a compressed working schedule.

Good training.

Cons

Too much politics. The management didn't care about employee career development at all. The only thing they cared about was their managers. They functioned like their managers' shadows, following them everywhere.

A sad thing about GE Energy for experienced technical professionals: if GE is not your first employer, you are probably not included in the loop. Managers want junior engineers to lead projects, while senior engineers only function like consultants.

Poor vacation weeks. Even if you are very experienced, your vacation starts at two weeks.

Advice to Management

The management needs to be more inclusive.

They should show more respect to senior technical staff, letting them lead the projects instead of the young, "Edison" engineers.
