I'm not sure why nobody talks about it, but GM interview questions are almost all in STAR format, regardless of the position. Practice answering STAR interview questions!
I'm rating the interview difficulty easy because I practiced and had stories of my experience ready in my brain to talk about for each question.
First, I got a call from a recruiter to verbally reconfirm the information I submitted in my application. Then, I received a link in an email to record myself on webcam answering 3-4 interview questions with 1 retry per question.
In a week or two, I got a call from the recruiter stating the hiring manager wanted me to come to Warren Tech Center for a final interview (in person for the QE position interview; this was during the COVID period).
The team I was interviewing with had 1 manager and 3-4 lead engineers, so I was interviewed by 2 of them in the first hour and the other 2 in the second hour. They were almost all STAR format questions, and they allowed me 30 seconds to think of episodes from my experience to answer each of their questions.
One of very few questions that were not in STAR format:
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
(This is not a question about your ambition for the future; it's about whether you plan on sticking with this position at GM.)
