You're easily replaceable, so they don't necessarily care about you, even if you're a great employee. Layoffs are stressful (8-10 year cycles).
As you talk higher up in management, the more rude they get. My senior manager was terrible. She actually told my EGM to shut up in a department meeting because she didn't agree with him.
