Tasks are excessively compartmentalized, meaning a lot of engineers aren't able to develop any real skills. I wasn't allowed any direct agency in 90% of the tasks I was "responsible" for; mostly all I could do was ask other people to do things. I was unable to get meaningful experience in anything important to a mechanical engineering career. FEA/CAE analytical tools, CAD modeling, drawing creation, and even early concept development are all restricted to separate groups.
Upper management seems out of touch, with a lot of unrealistic claims and timelines.
Too many non-manager roles seem to exist only to track other people's work.
Stop trying to idiot-proof the company so much that you hamstring people. Let your engineers be engineers instead of glorified middlemen.
