Pros

The benefits are good for the area.

Cons

It's very hard to move up without being politically savvy. Recognition is given to those that screw up their job and then fix it, rather than those that do it correctly the first time. Those that complain about how much work they have get recognized, rather than those that keep quiet and get the job done without complaint. It's a political game.
