GM values family time and work-life balance, for the most part. It's typically a very open and accepting company, very large with good pay and benefits. There's a good amount of opportunity, for the most part. There's less favoritism and a more intelligent workforce than other OEMs, in my experience.
Not a complete meritocracy. Time at the company and connections do matter. It's very large, so it's difficult to get things done or get support at times. There's a lot of red tape and convoluted systems to use. An intense amount of time is spent on diversity, inclusion, and social issues, and stuff that is non-constructive to the business. The company is very politically and socially involved, and that can get rather annoying if your goal is to stay out of that stuff and just help the company make great vehicles.
Focus on making a good product and less about being on the right side of social issues and popular culture. Lead with sound logic and solid engineering instead of just following TESLA all the time and trying to win over Wall Street in a reactive manner.
The initial phone screening and team's meeting were positive and encouraging. For the in-person one, I was told to arrive early, but the interview started 15 minutes late, and I was left alone waiting. Very little attempt was made to build rapport,
The interviewer asked standard interview questions. They were a mix of behavioral and technical questions. * Why do you want to work here? * Greatest strength? The technical portion focused on coding and problem-solving skills.
Overall, my interview was a positive experience. The preparation, the professionalism of the interviewers, and the transparent communication all contributed to an engaging and challenging interview. I would recommend [Company Name] to other candidat
